How to get out of Bronze

If you are new to Rocket League, then when you dive into ranked matches you will more than likely be placed into the Bronze ranks. There are three tiers in this rank, Bronze one, two, and three. In order to get out of Bronze ranks and into silver you must be consistently winning games. Below I will list the things that I learned playing on my new account that allowed me to promote into silver.

Tips to get out of Bronze:

  • Shot Accuracy
    • Work your way through the “Striker” preloaded training pack.
    • At this rank all you really need to do is be able to put the ball on frame and you will have a really good chance of it going in.
  • Speed of Play
    • Go into normal “Free Play” and practice hitting the ball around at max speed. Get used to making adjustments going at this speed so that you will be able to play at a much faster pace than your opponents.
    • More than anything, just focus on consistently hitting the ball in the direction you want.
  • Aerial Ability
    • Practice using the “Rookie” and “Pro” difficulty in preloaded “Aerial” training pack.
    • This isn’t as crucial, but knowing how to aerial this early in the game will help you a lot in later ranks.

I have played a total of eleven games on my new account. I ended up getting a good teammate in a few of my placement games and even with me not playing or messing around they managed to still win the game. So I have won a total of seven games of my eleven played. Sadly, that made it so I was placed straight into Silver Three and after my next win I was promoted into Gold One. That being said, I am still going to make my next post about going from bronze to silver. I also realized that something that some people take for granted when they start playing the game are the best settings to use. The truth is there are no perfect settings. You should make your settings based on your preferences. I’m going to give my suggestions, but you by no means need to follow everything that I do. I think it’s a good idea to turn off “Camera Shake” so that your screen doesnt jitter everytime that you hit the ball or flip your car. I think that this can get very annoying. Another thing I suggest is turning your controller vibration off so that you won’t be affected as much when hitting balls or boosting. Lastly, it is a good idea to go into “Free Play” and adjust your camera settings to what you think is best for you. I will leave my camera settings below so that you can try it out and adjust it to what will work for you.

Progressing through the competitive ranks in Rocket League can be very difficult and rage inducing. Trust me, I know exactly how hard it is, I have put easily 900-1000 hours into playing the game and I am only a Champion One. As sad as that may seem, I have learned a lot in my time playing and I think I have a lot of good tips and tricks to help players get better fast.

Anyway, The reason it took me so long to progress through the ranks is because I didn’t know how to get better. I didn’t know about all the special mechanics in the game that you could do to make you look like a god compared to others.

I gained the majority of my knowledge about the game by watching a lot of tutorial videos on YouTube. Here are some of my favorite channels that are full of great information for players trying to get better.

Moving on, I have decided that I am going to challenge myself and create a new account and play from the lowest ranks up. I am going to lose all of my placement matches and start in Bronze 1 and work my way all the way up into Champion. I will most likely be going into the 2v2 playlist alone while doing this challenge.

Along the way I will update this blog as to how my matchmaking rating (MMR) is increasing. I will also discuss the things that I see while playing in each rank. Then I will create a list of the skills that anyone will have to master in order to progress from one rank into the next. I will also link videos and suggest ways to practice these skills as to master them in the fastest and most efficient ways possible.

I will be tracking my skill rating using Rocket League Tracker Network. It updates your MMR every five minutes if you use its live tracker option. I think it is very handy to see how fast or slow you are progressing. It also will let you know how good the other team was compared to you. If the other team was better than your team in skill rating, and you beat them, you will get more skill points for beating a team that is supposed to be better than you. This also works so that if your team has a higher skill rating than the opposing team, then if you lose you will lose more skill points.

I look forward to doing this challenge and helping players get better. In my next post I will talk about my experiences and what I noticed and learned. See you next time!
